“6th Grader Who Finishes Our Program With Normal Psychological POST TEST Results and Gets Honored by Her Private School with NOT ONE BUT 2 ACADEMIC AWARDS! See the pictures and read her Mom’s Testimony below: Remember Psychological Test Scores Between 85-115 are Considered Normal to High Average (No Learning Disability) Hope Lee Coan Wrote to The Children’s Dyslexia Center of Georgia: To anyone with a child that struggles with reading (reads very slow, struggles with phonics, or replaces words with similar words in a sentence) or is known to have dyslexia, you must give Jill Ham, a dyslexic specialist, the opportunity to work with your child. Let us start with our daughter’s elementary years, she was able to mask her disability by memorizing her site words and lessons. Despite being an “honor student”, she struggled in phonic awareness and decoding of words that kept her reading below grade level. In the (public) elementary school, she was attending t the time, they didn’t acknowledge her disability because her reading comprehension and grades were great. Learning to read in first grade was difficult and when she did, it was very slow and choppy. The school recommended that she be pulled out of class for extra reading time with a reading specialist and when that didn’t help; they asked that she repeat the first grade. Looking back, all the signs of dyslexia were there, but not knowing anything about dyslexia, we did what the school told us to do for her. By the 6th grade, the struggle intensified. The first two weeks of middle school, she showed signs of severe anxiety. School was no longer fun. Our once confident daughter now was crying on the way to school and even getting sick, to then come home. Coming from elementary school memorizing information form one teacher was no longer possible for her in middle school with multiple teachers. She had too much information, too many teachers with different teaching styles, and too much to memorize because she couldn’t read fast enough to keep up with the class and not enough phonic awareness to pronounce words she hadn’t memorized in elementary school. She couldn’t even pronounce the word of one of her own classes (G-goffy for geography). She no longer could mask her disability and we didn’t know what was wrong. How could our honor student form elementary school be struggling this hard? Fortunately, a teacher in the (private) middle school recognized the symptoms of dyslexia and alerted us to what might be contributing to our daughter’s frustrations. Not giving us a diagnosis, she asked that we at least have it checked out as an option. We were eager to help and started researching right away! The more we read the more it came clear that all of the case studies sounded just like our daughter. As we started to look at options, a friend’s daughter had been diagnosed, and was beginning treatment with a specialist named Jill Ham, who owned the Children’s Dyslexia Center of Georgia. The test was very simple and after watching Jill with our daughter, we knew that she was dyslexic. My husband and I wouldn’t have believed what we were seeing and hearing if we had not been in the room while the testing was in process. We were shocked and amazed at our daughter at how she masked her disability all these years and upset that we didn’t know what to look for to get her help until now. Part of what the test revealed to us is that she did’t recognize a good portion of letters in the English alphabet and their sounds. This explains why she couldn’t understand how to pronounce a word that wasn’t a site word form elementary school. It shocks me that you can go through school as an honor student and not know these things, but the new system of teaching site words and no phonics forced our daughter to adapt to this type of teaching and just memorize everything. She memorized site words, she memorized all the pictures in the books to help her understand and put the puzzle of reading together for each of her books, and she memorized what the teachers were saying verbally cause on the board could be sketch for her....memorize, memorize, memorize!! What does this tell us about our daughter? She is one smart girl!! Jill’s program was offered to us after it was revealed that she was, in fact, dyslexic and to be honest we were shocked at the cost involved. We didn’t know much about her of her programs other than people were telling us that she was amazing and could help our daughter. We really had no choice but to pray about the financials of the program and what the best route for getting help would be for our daughter. I cried a lot and prayed on guidance. We were led to go through the program so that’s what we did, and I must say that Jill’s program has made such an impact on our child’s life! She gave our daughter her life back with the gift to seeing and pronouncing letters and words like she hasn’t been able to do before now. Her program was the BEST investment for our daughter’s future. We now know it was a life-changing investment! Within the first 2 sessions, our daughter could say each letter of the alphabet and the sounds. Within 2 months, I no longer was helping her with homework for 4 hours each night. Yes, 4 hours!! You want to know how much time I spend with her helping with homework now? NOT ONE MINUTE!! No more tears, no more anxiety, and no more having to look at her confidence slipping away. In fact, by the end of our 40th session, she received an award during honors week at her school. One boy and one girl were chosen out of the ENTIRE GRADE LEVEL for certain awards. Our daughter was chosen for not only the LANGUAGE ARTS award but also the MATH AWARD!! My husband and I cried tears of joy for her!! What a turnaround form the beginning of the year. So, as you can see, we highly recommend Jill Ham and her program to anyone looking to get real help for their child suffering with this disability. She has a God given gift to understand what these children need and has developed her own program to get them to see and understand like NO OTHER PROGRAM OFFERS! I thank God for her coming into our lives and appreciate the support of the teachers at our daughter’s school to help us get through her first year of middle school. If you are not sure, or are in a financial struggle to get your child through this program....just do what you have to get them to Jill. I only wish I knew early on because Madison would have NEVER been held back in first grade. She would have continued on with her friends. Jill, Mike and I want to than you again for helping Madison. We will never forget how you changed everything for her. She got her smile back. God bless you and your family!!”

“I have learned as a parent of a child with special needs that one must be prepared to face a multitude of challenges along the way. Our daughter has Down’s Syndrome and has overcome several milestones as a direct result of Jill Ham’s instruction and advocacy. At the start of the 07-08 school year my daughter was still working on letter recognition whereas the rest of her peers were working on site words and reading. When we met for a parent teacher conference at the end of the 1st grading period, we were informed that our daughter was not making progress. Concerned, we contacted Jill immediately.
Jill addressed the issue at hand and restructured our daughter’s program to accommodate our daughter’s needs. Along with Jill as our advocate and private tutor, I am proud to say that just before Christmas vacation our daughter had read 5 books and by the end of the 2nd nine weeks she was able to read 20 site words and 12 different books. By the 3rd grading period, my daughter was reading on her grade level, 1st grade and could read over 60 site words.
What a tremendous accomplishment for a child with Down’s Syndrome. Not only am I proud of my daughter, my daughter is proud o herself and her accomplishments. Jill helped my daughter become a better student and helped my daughter gain more independence and self esteem.
I know that when my daughter is with Jill, she is with someone who truly cares about her. Jill believes that all children can learn and she does whatever it takes to make that happen! Jill believes that ALL children can learn that just need the appropriate program.
Jill is a wonderful educator and advocate!”

“When Jill created her website and asked me if I would write a testimonial for her, I said of course. Putting it in writing was very hard. How can I explain what an impact she has had in our life? Here is the condensed version of my story and how she helped us... My name is Pamela and I am the mother of a wonderful, compassionate and loving child who has a learning disorder. He was also traumatized by an accident in preschool that affects him only in school settings. All of this cannot compare to the horrific first year of kindergarten he spent in public school. When we started Kindergarten, he was phonetically ahead of his peers and reading words by sounding them out. He had no fears, made friends easily and was a very happy child.
At the end of the year, we had regressed to no reading, hardly any writing, being scared of everything and almost everyone, could not function in a social setting of his peers and had lost his confidence. All my meetings with teachers, the counselor, assistant principal, principal, county officer, emails and calls to state officials were to no avail. In the beginning, I was told I was just being overprotective. Then I was told that I was mistaken. Then I was blatantly lied to and my IEP was withheld by a teacher who just never got around to writing it. At one point, I was told that I was the problem. Officials sympathized but old me there was nothing they could do to help. I was given the name of a school advocate to help me but knew that an official appointed by the school system would not have my best interests at heart. Even my husband thought I was just being overprotective and overreacting. No one listened to me. One county official told me that sometimes, the system fails. My child has to repeat kindergarten.
I tried to hire lawyers and all of them had a connection to the school system and could not help me. I fought the good fight and lost. I was an army of one. Then, after the end of the second school year at the same school (my husband would not let me withdraw him), a parent form the same horrible class contacted me and gave me Jill Ham’s name and number.
She listened to my story, went over all my notes, correspondence and IEPs and told me that she would be my advocate and had an opening if I was interested in tutoring for my child. I said yes to both and it has changed my life and my child’s. She introduced me to her lawyer who will fight for the rights of the children against any school. We are an army of three now. My child is reading and doing math. His confidence level is growing and he is going to be OK. We are now fighting the good fight and may just win. I can only tell you that she will do what it takes to help your child if you are blessed enough to hire her. She has made a difference in our lives and can do the same for you. ”

“My daughter, Bekah, and I were struggling in our home school. We spent most of our school time frustrated with each other and the work. I was ready to put her on that big yellow bus and let the professionals have a crack at her. Instead I started praying and researching. I looked at different curricula. I read blogs, learned about right-brain learning, and even started investigating ADD. I tried vitamin supplements. We worked harder, Nothing was working. I was at my wits end. We began learning about dyslexia. It was then i learned about Jill Ham’s 40 hour program. We went for our initial consultation, and I sat there as Bekaj struggled to read and write words. Jill’s diagnosis of severe dyslexia should not have been a surprise. We now knew why such a bright child was struggling so much. Bekah was seven-years old form leaving our home in Georgia to move overseas and needed to do all we could do to prepare her for a successful transition. We worked with Jill to schedule our sessions to complete the 40 hour program within our tight time frame. After our very first session, Bekah was writing her letters-without struggling. She was beginning to read simple words without struggling. I was already seeing improvement! After we completed the program, she was reading fluently on grade level! Jill has opened the pathways in Bekah’s brain that were preventing her form learning.
In just four short weeks, Bekah made a two year progress in her reading and writing. She continues to improve as her confidence improves! We are forever grateful for Jill’s program and help for Bekah. She now has a whole new world opened up up her! ”

“My daughter is in 3rd grade. Since she started school she has always had a horrible time with reading, spelling and writing. After her second grade school year we meet with her teachers to decide if we would hold her back and have her repeat second grade. Not only had w spent $10,000 in vision therapy, thousands on private tutors, thousands on places like Sylvan and Kumon, but she is also in a very expensive private school that costs a little over $9,000 per year. A friend of ours referred us to Jill and said that she could do amazing things with children and dyslexia. She told us that her son went form reading on a kindergarten level to a 3.5 reading level after Jill’s 40 hour program. We were skeptical because of all the things we had tried before, but let me tell you, Jill is the REAL DEAL. When Jill tested our daughter, she could not even stay on the line and read, she jumped words, sentences and even missed an entire paragraph (this was after $10,000 in vision therapy). She could not write her alphabet correctly, nor could she spell any words without missing letters. She was only reading about 50 words per minute and could not remember anything she read. If you asked her what she read, she would tell you something totally off the wall. Our daughter was scared when we told her that we were taking he to jill’s to be tested, but oh did that end quick. She absolutely LOVED Jill! She said, “Jill understands me and knows how to help me”. My husband and I came home and spoke with a numerous amount of clients that Jill has helped and they all said the same thing that our friend had said, so we decided to give Jill’s program a shot!
It was AMAZING! After the first session, our daughter left Jill’s house being able to identify all of her letter sounds (short and ling) and was able to form all of her letters correctly, which she could never do before. She would always start from the bottom and go to the top and would constantly reverse her d, b, p and q. My first question was, “Will she remember the next day?” She has never forgotten form that moment on and this is something that has NEVER happened. She has been trying to learn letter sounds and how to break down words since she was 5. After the first session and seeing how easily Jill was able to help her, we were very excited to see what would come next. So after the first session, our daughters reading was never the same. Jill was able to take her from a pre-school reading level (not kidding) to a 3.5 reading level. Not only was she able to read fluently at 100 words per minute, but she could spell and write!! It was so amazing to see how quickly Jill could correct the problems that our daughter had. Jill knew exactly how to get her brain to fire and open up the pathways that were stopping her from being a fluent reader and writer.
Not only were we seeing it, everyone around us could see it to. The teachers at school were so impressed that they pulled us aside and got Jill’s business card so they could give it to the headmaster of the school. The headmaster then called Jill in to help restructure the reading program at my daughter’s school, so other kids could get help form Jill. Jill not only helped our daughter learn how to read, but she made our daughter feel so proud and confident along the way. We just took our daughter back to the eye doctor and the eye convergence is also gone. Jill told us that it would self-correct once the program was done and the the convergence was due to dyslexia, but we did not believe it until we got the eye doctor report.
We hope that our testimonial will help any parents out there that are struggling the same way we did for years. Jill is the “real” thing and will do everything in her power to help your child. She even helped at our daughter’s school develop a reading program!”

“Jill Ham is an exceptional teacher. No one was able to help our son until we found her. Jill has a gift to be able to understand exactly what someone needs and we got instant results form her program. Her program not only helped my son academically but improved his self esteem also.”

“I took my 10 year old son with dyslexia to see Jill after 4 years of trying to teach him to read on my own. Over the years I used several Orton Gillingham programs along with certified tours. He progressed through each program but it never translated into every day reading. Jill was able to take him form a 2nd grade reading level to a 5th grade reading level within a few weeks. Her expertise in dyslexia and how his brain was processing information was what made the difference. She had him doing activities and skills that he had never done before. It was almost as if a switch was turned on and all of a sudden he began to progress quickly.
Jill was always encouraging to me as a home school mom and provided material for us to work on at home. She provided a nurturing and positive environment, which was very important to both of us. We are eternally grateful for Jill and how she has made a difference in our son’s life.”

“We have a dyslexic 9 year old son who began with Jill January 2011. After several years with other tutors and numerous “specialized dyslexic” programs he was barely reading, struggling at a beginning kindergarten level. We are pleased to say he is reading at a fluent 3rd grade level. Thank to Jill, his confidence has been restored and his reading a success!”

“I was lucky enough to find Jill when my daughter was 10 years old and struggling immensely due to her dyslexia. I home school her, and she and I were both at our wit’s end. I was cautiously optimistic (and a little skeptical) that Jill would be able to help her. After all, I had thrown away thousands of dollars on vision therapy and other at-home dyslexia programs. Incredibly, we could tell a difference after just one session with Jill. My daughter finally felt understood. She said, “Jill just gets me and helps me understand why my brain works the way it does”. Jill’s program absolutely worked for my daughter. Her reading, writing, spelling and math all greatly improved. It used to to take her hours to finish her work, and I’d accuse her of daydreaming or not focusing. But now she does her work in a reasonable amount of time and without tears. I would say the most important thing that Jill has done for my daughter, however, was o give her back her self-esteem. She constantly felt dumb and called herself names. She had no confidence when it came to learning. Now she believes that she is smart, and it shows everyday in the way she approaches her school work.
Jill is such a warm and generous person. She honestly cares about the children she helps, and they just love her for it. She is so knowledgeable in all areas of education, and she’s completely dedicated to her work. My daughter said that, “Jill is an angel who has freed me form feeling stupid”. We will forever be grateful for having her in our lives!”

“A few weeks ago, I posted here, asking if anyone had been able to get to fluency with the Barton method. Jill Ham responded to me privately, and we got chatting on the phone about my son. After a couple of conversations and emails, I asked her for some references. She gave me the emails of about 12 of her clients, and I was able to talk with almost all of them. I’m a naturally skeptical person, but they convinced me that she was the “real deal”. So, we decided that we would like Jill to work with our son.
Well...she lives near Atlanta, and we live near Milwaukee, and we decided to do a full week of intense work, as opposed to weekly sessions. As it turned out, she was planning a trip to Indianapolis to visit family, and so we drove there and spent the last week in a motel, where Jill corrected his dyslexia.
OK, I just used the phrase “corrected his dyslexia”, which is Jill’s description of what she does. Before spending the week with her in Indy, I didn’t use this phrase, because I didn’t think anyone could actually correct it. Well after the first day with Jill, she asked him if there was any difference for him, and he said “The letters don’t jump around the page anymore”. For me, that is a correction!
Last Monday, my 12-year-old son was unable to read with any fluency at all, even at a kindergarten level. With great effort, he could just sound out words that I forced him to read. This was 6 years of phonics instruction. Today, one week later, he is reading (with fluency) at an end of 2nd, beginning 3rd grade level..I am thrilled!
II homeschool Joshua, and Jill spent a couple of hours with me, pinning a curriculum for me to use with him over the next couple of years. For the first time, I have an expectation that Joshua will be able to be a totally literate cult, without being held back by dyslexia! I have tears in my eyes as I write this. She was definitely an answer to my prayers.
A couple of weeks ago, Jill made an offer to give free dyslexia testing, and it was met wit some serious criticism. I didn’t say anything at that time, because I couldn’t yet vouch for her. But, now I just want to say that I am very impressed with her program, her skill and her sincere desire to help dyslexic kids. Feel free to contact me is you would like any more information.”
